Short answer
Divide the price by the quantity, then compare the same unit. A larger package can have a lower unit price but a higher immediate cash cost. Both may matter to your budget.
Practical steps
- Compare milliliters with milliliters or grams with grams.
- Do not convert grams to milliliters without product-specific density.
- Include shipping and tax consistently if you choose to include them.
- Promotions, subscriptions and bundles can change the comparison.
A worked example
Hypothetical prices for two fictional packages:
- $12 for 120 mL = $0.1000 per mL ($10.00 per 100 mL).
- $18 for 200 mL = $0.0900 per mL ($9.00 per 100 mL).
The first option costs 11.11% more per mL, but the second costs $6.00 more upfront.
