A practical skincare label checklist

Check identity first, then the specific claim, its source and the date you checked it.

Short answer

Begin with product identity: brand, full name, suffix or variant, region and package quantity. Similar branding can hide an important product difference.

Record the claim and its source

Next, record the specific claim you care about and the official page where you found it. Keep the checked date. When shopping, compare the purchased package with the online information. The Ordinary explicitly notes that formulation information can vary by time and region, illustrating why a dated record matters. S21

Keep missing information visible

Do not turn a missing claim into a negative rating. Use the worksheet to list what remains to verify; use the purchase log for the item actually bought.

  1. Brand.
  2. Full product name, including any suffix or variant.
  3. Region of the page or package.
